I visited the restoration hangar at Duxford today, and got a few photos of progress.
Many thanks to Peter, and especially "crew chief" John for allowing me access "behind the barriers"...

John hard at work stripping the skin from the starboard horizontal stabiliser, framed by the wing trailing edge panels:

While I was there, Sally-B went up for a short refresher flight for the crewmembers:

She returned parked up shortly before I left:

I've been hearing through the grapevine that the 303rd are making an aggressive bid to have 'Mary Alice' re-schemed as a 303rd aircraft? If true the 401st really need to step in and out trump the 303rd!!

Anyone heard any different?

I note the WIX thread has now been retitled from the "Mary Alice thread" to the "Duxford restoration thread".

That doesn't seem to bode well for seeing the Mary Alice scheme again...

I had a meeting at Duxford yesterday, so got there early to take some snaps of how the B-17 looks now she's back in the American Air Museum hangar:

Looking a bit bare on this side now:

Chin turret being installed:

You'll notice she looks very low to the ground in this shot.
That's because the undercarriage legs are currently drained hence the scissors linkage is down on the stops:

They are still reasembling the tail section, but the tail turret is just about complete:

A couple of shots of "Uncle Frank's office".
No work was done on the ball turret this time around, we'll have to see what the planned 2014 work will entail:

Dan Knight's A2 jacket still on display:

All the best,
Paul
