I arrived home with my new-release Revell 1/72 B-17G kit today, after searching for one for a couple of months. 🙂

I'll be building one of the PFF-equipped Forts, as the kit comes with the scanner radome included.
I've narrowed it down to a choice of three, due to the limited versions buildable from the kit as is comes.

42-97600 IW-Y
Pros:
Bog-standard G-20-VE, barring the basic Pathfinder mods.
Cons:
Only a single reference photo, of the underside.

42-97636 IY-H
Pros:
Good photo coverage, standard G-25-VE with basic Pathfinder mods.
Cons:
None really.

42-97947 SC-U Possibly "Snooper".
Pros:
A bit more of an interesting subject, retaining the "barred" unstaggered waist windows but upgraded with the Cheyenne tail position.
Good photo coverage, both in-flight and on the ground.
Cons:
A few extra PFF modifications need adding, nothing too major though.
Not 100% certain of matching the name to the serial number, and the nose art would need to be made from scratch but as I'm making my own decals I'm halfway there already.

As all three are NMF planes, I'll be using real metal foil, just the regular household kitchen foil.
Here's a sneak-peek at the results of the first trial, using the shiny and dull sides. (Apologies for the flash)

All the best,
Paul

What? Yer not gonna do the H17? What's wrong with you man???

Let us know how the "foiling" goes. I may try that one of these days... although it may be more like one of these decades. 🙂

H17 wasn't a PFF bird.... 😉

If this one comes out OK a future one may end up as H17, with all the detail tweaks I've noted in the last couple of days.
However, as a Block 55-BO she had the staggered waist windows, which on this kit would require major surgery to reproduce. 😞

I have one of those balsa wood B17-G modles that someone is putting togeather for me and has been more than 2 years in the making. He had some health issues that backed it up. It's 1/72 also if I remember right now. Would like to have a kit for the lables and name Carrie B II and all for it. Not sure how I will get that done as he will paint it the proper color but doesn't do the art work and all the stripings required.
