Hey

I have being asked if I would like to adopt 4 soldiers in Henri Chapelle , Belgium.
This cemetery is just 20 miles from my home , so it was a honor for me to do that.

The 4 men I adopted now are 4 crewmen also from the 615th.
They are on the WOM wall of missing and it is going to be my mission to try to find as much of information about them as possible.
So I can make a new story on my website http://www.remember-our-heroes.nl

Its about:

William E Brereton
William H Green
Theodore Monarcky
John J. Reardon

Their last mission was on 22 Nov 1944 to merseburg and the pilot was H.L. Oas

So as anyone has some info for me , I would be pleased to hear it

Andy

Yes the IDPF does take a long time I know. If you requested the MACR from where I suggested I hope they will include the debrief of the pilot (Lt. Oas) who was a POW. It would be interesting to know what you get from his relative.

Hey
I requested the MACR somewhere else.
The address you gave , is that for free or do you have to pay for it ?

Everything I find I will post it on my website and here if you like.
From the Maid to Order I have also a complete story and MACR on my website.
Go to Del Torto or Brunson and scroll down , you will find the MACR.

Hey

I just found the complete MACR on footnote.com.
Its a lot of information on it, also a form with the story of Lt Oas.

He filled in all the individual casualty questionnaire reports of all the crew members.
And made a own report.
He stated that he was blown out by explosion and he saw the bombardier ( william Mencow ) and navigator ( william Green ) bailed out on his signal after first direct hit by flac ( engine number 3 )
The plane crashed 3 miles from Merseburg in a town called Kriegsdorf ( now its called Friedensdorf )

4 men are on the wall of missing including Theodore Monarcky , but I also have a document from the Germans that stated that Theodore was buried by the Town Mayor on a cemetery in Kriegsdorf !!!!
Why is he on the wall of missing ?

I found a beautifully picture of Theodore Monarcky , but thats all , nothing else to find.

Will be continued.

I have updated my website , I have some information about Monarcky and Reardon.
I placed a add in a newspaper , and it started to rain emails.

I would very much like to make a page on my site about the 401st, ( the button is already there ) so everyone can read about the station 128 where 6 of " my " men flew.
I am very interested in the 401st and starting to know it a little bit.
I have some books about the 401st etc. etc.
But......

Where do I start , what will I mention, I have so much info now that I don't know how to make 1 page about the 401st.
Does anyone have a idea ?

Personally, were I to do it, Andy, I'd just talk about your men, point out their roles in the 401st (and link to the appropriate places), talk about their lives in and around the base (with more linking) and, finally, finish it all off with a link saying "More about the 401st."

That's my two cents.

Ed.

Ok thanks Ed and Don

Well Ed your wright about linking , but I would like to make one page with a brief history of the 401st and from there I can link to other pages, e.g. this forum.
But is it legal if I would copy and paste something from the 401st website to my page or do I need to contact somebody ?

I think if you attribute it to the 401st, you should be just fine. By that I mean, under the text you copy, place a link that redirects to the page you borrowed from that says "taken from the 401st" or "(c) 401st" or something along those lines and you should be OK.

Yep that would be fine. Would also help possible traffic on the 401st BG Site.

Good job, Andy. It looks nice.

I have a couple of suggestions for you to consider. And these are nothing more than things that might make it a little nicer in my opinion. First, it's pretty long, you might want to consider breaking it into pages. Second, I think the squadron emblems would look better with transparent backgrounds, rather than white ones. And, finally, you might want to consider "munging" your email address, in order to protect it from spambots.

For the emblems, you're welcome to use these, I took them from the 401st site and made the background transparent:

And, if you don't know how to "mung" an email address, you can simply use this link:
<a href='' onclick="javascript: var a='remember', b='nl', c='heroes', d='our', e='comments'; document.location.href = 'mailto:'+e+'@'+a+'-'+d+'-'+c+'.'+b+'?Remember Our Heroes.';">email</a>
.

It seems like a lot when you can do it as simply as your original link, but I, personally, think it's worth it to keep spambots from stealing your email.

Once again, nice job, Andy. I'm going to have to show dad what you've done when I get the chance.

Edited to add: I just signed your guest book and added my compliments but it didn't show up. I'm not sure why. I'll try again later.

Hello Ed

Thank you , I am going to use your emblems , thats much better.
The email button you see on my website isn't my email , but of the server, I only get a message from my server that I have a email, so all the Spam will not reach me.
Also I made a bad_comment site that automatically removes all the Spam.
So if anyone would like to Spam me , they will get a bad comment message 😃

Thats also the reason why you not see your message in my guest book.
I received an email telling me that you wrote in my guest book , now I can decide if it is Spam or not.
I am going to place your message now , thank you for doing that.

Andy

Edit. I just placed your emblems and it is really much better, thanks

Andy,
The vast majority of the perimeter track is public bridleway so walking the whole perimeter is not too much of a problem, only one really dodgey bit by Home Lodge Farm were there may be some farm activity and the end of the runway if the sports people are active. Most of the sites have been explored by a few of us and I have never heard of any problems apart from Graham having a bit of bother with the estate manager, who is a prat, over nothing. The technical site can be home to some farm animals so we have to be mindful of the farmers needs. Paul has done more exploring than me so he will probabley give a fuller brief but I personally have never had a problem and it is a wonderful part of our country to see, lots of wildlife if you get lucky. You really must come over.
All the best

Hey, no fair planning trips to the 401st that I can't attend! And it better not be not raining if you go with out me! (It rained all day the last time we were there.)

@ Swinny

Yea, I suspected that's why my message didn't post right away.

My original emblems didn't take into account the darker background of your web page. I've updated them slightly and they should look a little better against that dark background. Give 'em a try.
