I am very positive that I flew aircraft 44-6508 "Maiden USA" on this mission. Vic Maslen's history shows that I flew aircraft 43-35865 "Gee I Want To Go Home". I made an emergency landing at the British Base at Wittering. The Tower log shows that 6508 landed at Wittering. Aircraft 44-35865 landed at Deenthorp. Can anyone on the Politz mission help me.

Norm:

I'm no 'Sherlock Holmes' but I can see where the two different aircraft info may have come from - The 401BG's official Mission #154 Report to Politz shows your 614SQ A/C 'both ways':
- Page 2 of the 614SQ 'Loading List' shows A/C 43-38565 with 1st.Lt. N. Sisson and crewmen (and page 3 shows A/C 44-6508 with pilot 2nd.Lt. Walter L. Morton and crew).
- The 'Formation at takeoff' diagram for the 94th's 'composite' D-Box HI SQ., (with a handwritten note indicating the formation was the same over the target) shows 'NISSON/ IW-A 6508' (off Silverstein's right wing) (and 'MORTON/ IW-X 8565' directly behind Sisson, (and off May's right wing)).
- And the 'Summary Report's' narrative of the mission 'Return to Base' paragraph includes: 'One aircraft landed away...', but does not identified it by squadron, A/C number or crew.

I could scan and E-mail (or mail paper copies) of these few pages if you'd like.

By the way, I need to E-mail you anyway - and send the photo of you and your daughter (wearing your uniform) taken in Boston.  ...I'm slow.

I hope this helps.

Win Bryson Yes, I do recall that I was flying off Silverstein's Right wing. His aircraft took a direct hit and exploded. I do not believe that anyone survived. The same AA burst hit our aircraft. We lost two engines and all hydraulics. It was necessary to make an emergency landing. Norman
