Man, I hate computers! And, when I say I hate computers, I mean I really @$^&(%$ hate computers! Not just a little bit, but a lottle bit!!! I mean, if words could describe how much I hate computers, they'd be a lot more than what I've typed so far!!!! War and Peace, anyone? 😃

(coughs)

Anywho... now that I've got that out of my system...

OK, as some of you know, I created a new forum style that was not quite ready for prime time. There were some issues regarding some pages not displaying correctly. Well, I promised I wouldn't release the new style until I fixed those problems. Here we are a year and the last two days later and.... @&$^ it may be fixed. The problem, Horatio, was not in our stars, but in Internet Exploder.

This assumes you have IE 8: so, for all of you that are using the new style, please do the following and then report back if you have any issues:
  1. Press F12 (a new window called "Developer Tools" will pop up.

  2. Look for a menu labeled "Browser Mode" and select IE8 Compatibility View.

  3. Next to Browser Mode is a menu labled "Document Mode," select IE8 Standards.

  4. Close the Developer Tools Window.

  5. Select the Compatibility View Settings item from the Page menu, a window will pop up.

  6. There should be a text box with the URL for the site in it. Press the add button next to it, close the window.

That should fix the problem, but if it doesn't, feel free to report back any issues you find. I will fix them as I can.

Stupid computers. All I had to do was adjust one simple, if not obvious, setting and alll was fixed.

...

Did I mention I hate computers?

Follow up: OK, it would appear that I've been lied to. 😞

The steps I listed in my previous post appear (for me) to be temporary, even though Microsoft states otherwise. Everytime I return to the site, the problem returns.

Once again, after trying the above procedure, your experiences are different, please let me know. I will get this figured out eventually.

Can't help you with this one I'm afraid Ed,

I went over to Firefox 6 months ago and hardly ever need to use IE now, I'm probably still on IE7 thinking about it . 😉

No worries, Paul. If you're not using IE, then you're OK. I've tested the look on the most popular browsers I know of: FireFox, IE, Safari and Chrome and everything works great... except IE. So, if you're no longer on IE, then you're ahead of the game.

Unfortunately, IE is the most used -- notice I didn't say "popular" -- browser out there, and, so, I have to adjust the style for it. Naturally, this makes my job all the harder...

Stupid computers!

Ed.

Ha! Fixed it! ...I hope.

Alright, this time I think I got it whooped, but since there's no easy way for me to verify -- the pages on this site are dynamically generated, so finding every problem takes a little more time than I've got at the moment -- I'm asking everyone who uses the new style to report back to me if there are still any issues.

Be sure to tell me exactly what you were doing at the time, the URL you clicked, or is displayed in the navigation bar. And screen prints always help. If nobody can find any issues with the "new" style of this forum, then I may release it for all once I'm satisfied.

It's working fine for me now ED. The other page is on the Members Page when you select Members from the upper right of the screen.

Ed,

I laughed as I feel that way frequently as I sure don not have the PC smarts you guys do.

I do have a question that is driving me nuts though. I love all the updates and go through the different pages as I can, but I am having a problem I never had before and it does not seem to matter if I access the site through Firefox or AOL.

When I click on the site (as a favouirt..saved boith places) I am directed to the site as I should be...howerver if I choose to go to the forum and then try to click the back arrow to go back to the home page..it will not redirect me in either browser.

I must close out the forum and start all over again and I was wondering if you could tell me why this is happening....it is a constant problem since the site changed and was never a problem before.

Feeling very stupid.....about computers! 😢

Jackie,

Then I am assuming that you Fav's list still has the .com address. When the new site came out I deleted everyone of my Fav's which was pointing to the .com and made them point to the .org site.

When you go to the old forum it will come up in the same window and you can get around every where. When you go to the New Forum it comes up in a new window. You can't redirect from the new forum.

Don's right, Jackie. At present, the menu on the .Org site will open the "New" forum into a separate browser/tab, so the back button would not apply.

I'm hoping to fix that shortly, but, as is usually the case with this kinda stuff, it's gonna take me a bit to iron the kinks out of it.

(Which is another reason why I hate computers! 😉 )
