Found this today:

It appears to be 43-37706 IN-U, aka "Satan's Chill'en", with a chunk of the port wingtip missing.

All the best,
Paul

Yep it sure is missing a chunk of the wing. Were you able to clean it up to get the possible ID on the aircraft?

I'm awaiting a possible higher quality version of the photo, but at the moment I've tenatively identified her as 43-37706 IN-U for the sole reason that she's the only aircraft with the ID letter U in the 401st roster with a double number as part of the serial on the tail, vaguely visible in the larger picture I have here.

The other choice would be 42-97947 SC-U, which was a PFF ship, but the Squadron Code looks to be straight-edged.

All the best,
PB

That's not a U! That's a J! And that ain't no N, it's a W! It's the Hard Seventeen, I tell's ya! the H17!

A little light detective work this evening...

The position of the U on the fin is centred below the leading corner of the Triangle S.
Compare that with the position of the U in this photo of 42-97947 SC-U, where it's centred directly below the triangle:

So looks like it is 43-37706 IN-U Satan's Chillen with a hole in her wingtip after all.

All the best,
Paul

Paul,

I can agree with you on the position of the "U" in both photos....
