Delbert Mitchell 10/29/2005 1:31:07 PM | My son and I recently visited the American Military Cemetery at Maddingly, England, and during our visit we were overwhelmed at not only the beauty and serenity of the cemetery, but at how well it is maintained. It is truly a place of glory for our fallen heroes. During our visit, I took a picture of a headstone with the name of William C. Matthies from New York with the 613th Sq, 401st BG who was KIA on 8 Aug 1944. I know nothing of this man, how he died, how he lived, or what his place in the 401st was, but I thought I would let you know that his final resting place at Maddingly was visited, respected, and saluted (I'm a Navy Vietnam Vet). If anyone from his family is a member of the 613th Sq, 401st BG, please let them know I have a picture of his final resting place and I will gladly forward it to them. Long live you heroes of WWII, you are my heroes forever. |
