3/19/2004 1:48:22 PM | Greetings all, I am seeking information on Sgt. Francis G. Allen who was killed in action on mission to Gorenflos, 13 March 1944, right waist gunner on the crew of 2Lt G J Hellmuth.
Can someone please tell me where they would have been stationed about this time? Would their families have been there? With many thanks, Nancy

Under Military Research look at IPDF and send for a copy of that report. It will have some interesting information in it. Now it will take awhile to get it but it is free.

He married a girl from Dungannon, Ireland, Ruth Mitchell, and it looked likely that he had met her in Deenethorpe. Their daughter was born after he was killed I believe. Would there be any information available about GIs that married while at Deenethorpe and what happened to their family when they were killed? Were there married GIs quarters on base? Would they have been still eligible for care at the base hospital (if there was one)? Thanks again for the help! Most appreciated:) Nancy

3/22/2004 9:10:27 AM | Well I can see then why you asked about families, I didn't know he married a Local. I don't believe there would have been any difference in today's military then back in WWII where his wife would have had medical priviliges. I would still think there were no quarters on base for married people and would have been given a quarters allowence to live close to the base. Now let me also make this statement I was not in WWII I am retired military.
When you are in another country you have to get married localy and then you have to get married again by a military chaplan so somewhere there is a record of the marriage. Best bet is the widow returned to her native town. Your best bet is still the IDPF file which will mention the wife.
