Last year I sent in the link http://www.wwiimemorial.com/default.asp?page=home.asp to remind others to think about sending their family members info into the WW II memorial site so they could be added to the site. I sent in my fathers info at that time and never had his info reviewed and added.

Has anyone else checked to see if their info was reviewed and added to the site? I re-submitted my fathers info today and I am once again waiting to see if the info will be approved for addition to the site......

The one I entered when I found the site quite awhile ago is there, so I had no problem.

Hi Jackie:
Have you tried the Website's E-mail customer service?
I haven't, myself (because I found my Uncle's whole 613Sq Nelson Crew is registered there, although I didn't do the registering).
But one thing I did learn while searching was that if the 'state' isn't listed correctly (with their WWII era address's 'state'), the registered soldier/sailor 'registration' won't come-up.
Good luck and hope to see your 'success' post soon.

Guess what after re-submitting the info....it was approved! Now all I have to do is upload a photo to it when I get a chance. I did not realize last year that could be done so maybe things happen for a reason.

I hope many others will add their loved ones info and photo to the site.

Thank you for the suggestion Win. If I had not heard back today...I would have had to check further. I had thought I entered the state last year, but maybe I did forget. Must have been a senior or an overload moment as I seem to have more than a few of them in the last few years.

Jackie:
Congrats! That was fast!
Photos? Thanks for mentioning that - I never thought of it, and so now I can go back and try to add them for Nelson Crewmen.
Some days things work...And it's really nice when they do.
Thanks again,
Win

Hi Don,

His information is there, but no photo. I tried to upload the photo after the account information came to me and I could not get an upload to complete. I am not sure if it is my computer or a web site problem. That is why I am wondering if anyone else uploaded a photo.

Hi Jackie:
I haven't tried the 'upload' option for photos - I'm going to have to go the US Mail (CD and check) route since I'm sending photos of all 10 Nelson Crewmen. (This makes all those years hunting Nelson Crew kin and photos all I can now di it. I hope many more 'heed your post' ).
Hope the Webmaster can solve your on-line photo upload soon - keep us posted.

Don:
There's a nice topic for the next PFG - I wonder how many know of the WWII Memorial Registry (and photo capability). (OK, don't say it...that I'm slow...we all know that...). 😉 ).

Win,

You are right about someone writing a story about the WW II site and the photo opportunity for the next PFG. I suspect there are a great many people who do not know about it and would be happy to ad their loved ones info.

Don, maybe you could write the article??

I still have not heard back from the web master so I may have to wait till next week and send the photo by mail as well.

Jackie (and Forum-ees):

FYI, here's the latest I've learned about the WWII Memorial D.C. Website, Registry and adding photos:
- - April 17th I mailed a CD (of all 10 613Sq 'Nelson' Crewmen, & the $10.00 each) to the WWII Memorial 'add a photo' site and they now are all on the Registry;
- - I still do not know how (or why) some names are already in the Registry (like our 613Sq 'Nelson' Crew) and others not (like my Wife's Dad's 381st B-17 Crew); but
- - I phoned the WWII Memorial today (800.639.4992) - they are very helpful with 'how to'. I learned, for example:
1) When doing a name 'search' on the Registry, the 'State/Territory' location is the soldier's induction location (not necessarily their 'hometown');
2) Each soldier in the Registry may be listed several times - Separately for each submittal of their name - Like a family, a friend or an honoring group;
3) I wasn't able to download their Registry 'form' so they will mail me one (which I can then photocopy and submit, one for each of my Wife's Dad's 381st B-17 Crewmen).
So you can see most of my 'success' has been by old fashioned 'phone' and 'US mail' (and not the Web).
- - April 4th I E-mailed George Menzel the 'scoop' for a PFG article about the Registry and photos (but haven't heard from him yet either way).
I encourage all 401st Vets, Kin and Friencs to take advantage of this honoring of those who served in WWII.

Don:

Ditto Jackie: A great photo, a great tribute, and just in-time for Memorial Day.

By the way Don, was your Uncle in the Registry prior to the listing & photo your link leads to?
