Lt. Stein and crew of the 612th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group, beside a Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" at an 8Th Air Force base in England, 22 February 1945.

Zooming in, one of the guys has his name written on his B-9 jacket:

I can't find a Lt Lundgren in the roster, but then again the search function isn't playing for me right now.

All the best,
Paul

I couldn't find him in the search either and tried some variation and use the wildcard search % which is a precent sign. I also looked through 3 months of loading list's I also found Stien in the 614th and not the 612th?

I don't think it's a picture of the 614th squadron either. Lt Robert O. Stine (note the spelling) was my uncle and I have a picture of him. He was about 6'5" and 21 years old. Nobody in the picture even remotely looks like him.

By the way, Stine and most of his crew were KIA when their B-17 was shot down on 11-Apr-1944.

Paul' Where did this photo come from footnote? As there is no listing of the Pilot in our database. But there is actually a 2nd Lt. W.I. Stein in the raw database which apparently not attached anywhere at the moment and that is why he didn't show up in the search on the web site. I won't know though until I run upon him while I am entering new info into the database.

Just to let you timing is every thing. I just entered a 2nd Lt Robert P Lundgren to the database and he is flying with a lead crew with 3 captains CP,Navigator, Joseph E. Brown future major. 1st Lt Thomas J. Harlan was the Pilot at the time. So that guy validates the photo.

Ta Don,

I've just noticed that the B-17 in the Footnote/NARA photo is a PFF ship too, so it all ties in.

All the best,
Paul

Tim,

My uncle, 2nd Lt Walter P. Empric, was the bombardier on your uncle's crew. Only he and the tail gunner, SSgt Gilbert Prager, survived their B-17's mid-air explosion on 11 April 1944 and were then held as POWs until war's end.

My uncle passed away in the mid '90s and Mr. Prager passed away a few years ago.

I have a good amount of information about the crew and its missions.
