6/16/2007 1:03:38 PM | With the help of Paul Bellamy (thanks again, Paul) I was able to locate a photo of the Lady Jane. But this leaves me with a bit of a mystery on my hands. Which Lady Jane is this? I or II? Looking at the airplanes mission reports, Lady Jane I only had 5 missions under her belt before she was lost. Lady Jane II had 26 missions before she was lost. But looking at the image of the Lady Jane in the archives, the nose shows 28 missions at the time of the photo. So, which LJ is this?
My best guess? It's II and her mission record isn't listing all of her missions. Of course the record clear states "documented missions" so I suppose it's possible that all the undocumented missions account for all the mission markers on the plane's nose. However, being a firm believer in Occam's Razor, I lean towards the errors being in LJII's mission report.
I'd ove to hear other thoughts on this subject.

I've a feeling the photo could be of the first Lady Jane.......
Although there are only 5 documented missions, what was she doing between May and October 1944? I doubt she was just parked up, especially during the Normandy Battle when the 401st were flying 2 missions a day.
If the original photo caption could be pried out of the NA it will be dated, which would confirm things either way.
