Hello

I recently adopted the grave of SGT Joseph V Del Torto
He was an radio operator in the 615th

We caretakers of the graves at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial ( Margraten ) are the ones who will see to it that the men and women buried there will not be forgotten.

I go there often with my wife and childern to see his grave is well being taken care for.
I always put flowers on his grave.

I now having internet and i am trying to find out as much as possible about your him its very hard to find anything about him.
I would like to know everything about him so i can explane it to my childern who s in that grave and what kind of man it was.
Now i am always looking at his grave and try to imagine who he was

I jused your : Searchable Crew Directory but i really hope that someone has more information about him or the crew.

The plain went down in the netherlands on 16 Feb 1945

Hope to hear from you all.

Well, God bless you for your care, Swinny.

Using the searchable function on the last name only "Torto" I get this, which looks like it could be your guy. It also reveals that he belonged to the Hansen, E.A. crew. Who lists here. Checking the crew photos I can't find a Hansen, only a Hanson. I don't think it's the same crew.

Interestingly, he does appear to have shared a plane with my father. They both seem to have flown on the Lady Jane. That's flown on, not flown together. I'll ask my father if he remembers him, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

Sorry I couldn't help more than that.

I asked my father yesterday and, sadly, the name does not ring a bell. He thinks that if he saw a picture it might help, but we can't be certain there, either.

However, I'm assuming that one of the reasons you've contacted this forum is that you have no such information. If that's not so, let me know and I'll pass the picture on to dad.

Something you might consider, Del Torto may still have living relatives. Have you considered contacting them? Just asking, as I'm assuming that is another of your reasons for contacting this forum.

Finally, just so that you know, dad thinks that this is a wonderful thing you are doing for our service man. Once again, thank you very much for your care. 🙂

Oh, and I goofed. It was the Cover Girl that they shared, not the Lady Jane II.

Hello Ed

Thank you for asking.

Yesterday i got an email from a librarian from his hometown pougkeepsie.
She said she has some information and foto`s.
That would be great and she will send them to me.

I came in contact with a nephew of Joseph, but he doesnt know anything about him, and there are now reletives left.

But now my hope is with the librarian.

So for now, thank you very much for trying

Andy
