Posted:
By: Clyde Larry Mings
On: 07/03/2007

There is a lot of confusion about the 401st. Actually, there was our 401st Bomb Group. There was also a 401st Bomb Squadron, which was part of the 91st Bomb Group at Kimbolton/Bassingbourne. They were one of the early groups, and holds the record for the highest losses-197 MIA aircraft. They had highest number of enemy aircraft destroyed-420. Rough days for those pioneers. The book "The Mighty Eigth" by Roger Freeman has many entries about the 91st BG and you may be able to trace Wilde through them. Hope this gives you a starting clue to research him.

Clyde L.
