Hixon'''
11/15/2001 2:35:36 AM | In the book "Portrait of a Flying Lady" by Geo. Menzel, there are several references to W.J. Sweeney and also, King. There is a picture of the crew (page 125) that was taken in Savannah, Ga. in 1944. All of the crew members are mentioned in the index. I have no info in re your father, but as I see names mentioned in this Forum I check the index of the above book. I am looking for a friend of that era and am always pleased to find the simplest clue. Hope this helps you to gain more info. If you can't find the book at your local Library, some Army/Navy stores carry military books.
|- | '''James Sweeney'''
11/20/2001 1:58:48 PM | Thank you very much. I will go look for the book. Jim Sweeney
|- | '''Melba L. If anyone else reading this, has means of contacting James Sweeney and can forward this message, please do so. Thanks
|- | '''H. L. Coffman'''
11/11/2005 1:53:17 PM | My father-in-law was the top turret gunner in this plane, which was shot down on Feb.3,'45 during a bombing mission over Berlin and landed "wheels up" in Russian occupied Poland. I have a photo (shows tail number 46508) of that plane which is a copy from the one that is in the Air Force Musem at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton Ohio.
