This is listed under my 613th book from the 613th and the newly published 401st Bomb Group Book, in the B-17 Flying Fortress Story list it as in the 614th Bomber Squadron:

My information was that the a/c was on mission to Keil, but this is at odds with yours. Could you confirm area of loss? My info says into sea south of Isle of Wight.

MACR 1872.
The new 401st BG Book indicates crashed in sea.

1/4/2002 3:44:58 PM | The mission of Dec 31st 1943 was to Bordeaux France and the aircraft was lost due to flak and fighter damage .The crash site 3miles off St Catherines Point
Lt Dockendorf is buried at Madinglay.Information taken from MIA report.
