Charles C. Henrie, Squadron Surgeon, leads a wounded gunner to an ambulance after a bombing mission to Germany."

All the best,
Paul

Paul Bellamy

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

2/22/2010 1:58:18 PM | I contacted the person selling the items and asked what the chance was of getting some scans of three of the photos and he told me sorry they were already on ebay for sale. Which ment if I would have asked before he put them there he would have given me copies. OK you should be able to figure out the rest of the story!!

The three I was looking at were the 1199 MP support, The Mascot and Shade Ruff. You never know who might bid on them....

Don

Sgt. Donald C. It's an early big-tail B-17, an E or F.
Could it be the base hack 41-9017 thinks I.
Going back to her previous assignment with the 398th Bomb Group, it appears '017 had two nicknames, "Agony Wagon" and.....

"Gravy Train".

All the best,
PB

Paul Bellamy

|- | '''Shade Ruff'''

2/23/2010 7:21:19 AM | To all:

As for the wounded airman in the picture, my guess is that it is S/Sgt Phillips from my uncle's Shade Ruff crew (1st Lt Stine crew). I believe this is likely from the mission for which Phillips was awarded the Silver Star (and which is discussed/documented in the Blue Book).

When he was alive, I distinctly remember my uncle (the crew's bombardier) describing this mission and stating that Ist Lt Stine had to order Phillips out of the tail gun position in order to receive in-flight first aid for head wounds. Phillips was filling in at TG that day as he was normally a waist gunner.

Regards,

Shade Ruff

|- | '''neelyann'''

10/22/2011 9:11:00 PM | Hi All,

Does anyone have the contact info/screen name or any clue on how to contact the person that had listed the pictures on ebay? My grandmothers first husband was E.J. Phillips the TG on the crew of the Shade Ruff. My cousin and I started to look for information on him and the crew a few years back but life and kids became a higher priority and we got side tracked. We only have 2 photos of him during his time in the military, none of them are from the time he was injured. I would love to view the pics that were up for sale or better yet get copies.

Thanks,
Neely Epperson

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

10/23/2011 11:03:05 AM | I don't as I contacted him through Ebay which doesn't give the email address sorry.

Don

Sgt.
