Jake Shepherd

Never Forget

Here’s to all those who are known as “Vet.”
Been to hell and back but still around here yet.
There were so many of us who gave their all,
We honor them but thank the Lord “we” did not fall!

Not just today but everyday we think of those who went away.
These fine young folks were the cream of the crop they say.
They left their families and their friends to go to Tim-Buk-Too,
When duty called they merely asked, “what do I have to do”?

Our Nation has faced so many trials as we have made our way.
In distant lands and yes here at home, we’ve had a debt to pay.
We’ve fought and died in many wars, have never lost one yet.
So every single citizen should say “Thank You” to a vet!

Heroes all, these guys and gals, the ones who took the pledge,
They raised their hand and said “I Will”, this put them on the edge.
They joined the forces of our land to fill a vital need.
They all received a number and dogtag that anyone could read!

Regardless what their duty was they all served in harm’s way.
Each one was important to the cause they had a part to play.
Whether on the battlefield or not they wanted to survive,
But as with everything in life, not all came home alive!

November 11 across our land is known as “Veteran’s Day.”
Flags will fly for every force, we’ll bow our heads to pray,
“Dear Heavenly Father there on high, the Maker of us all,
Bless everyone of those who served, bring peace to our “terrestrial ball”!

Copyright 2009

Jacob Nathaniel Shepherd

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

1/24/2010 5:45:08 PM | Thanks for posting this poem.

Don

Sgt.
