R. W. James, after being damaged by flak, managed to make it to Sweden, where it made a belly landing in a peat bog.
All crew members were interned but were returned to England and then to United States on November 30, 1944."

I'd guess the original owner of the photo was one of the crew:
2nd Lt R.W. James (Pilot)
2nd Lt R.M. Crossman (Copilot)
2nd Lt G.A. Morris (Navigator)
Sgt H.N. Miller (Togglier)
Sgt F.E. Hopkins (Radio Operator)
Sgt R.N. Scratchard (Engineer / Top Turret Gunner)
Sgt W.J. Keivens (Ball Turret Gunner)
Sgt D.F. Newman (Tail Gunner)
Sgt W.C. Pennington (Waist Gunner)

All the best,
Paul

Paul Bellamy

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

7/1/2009 2:27:37 PM | Well Paul I messed up. I had put that picture on my watching Items list and was following it. My medicine and forgetting got in the way and missed the last of the bidding. I saw it went for $61.00 and was planning to bid around $32.00 but would have been out bidded. That is a bummer as there are no pictures of this aircraft and that is a shame that the 401st didn't get it (me being the 401st).

Don

Sgt. Donald C.
