It is one of those unidentified nicknames.

Sgt. Donald C. Etters]' crew.

Unfortunately, for the majority of Etters' Crew's mission list their aircraft isn't named, but it could be possible that Miss Wing Ding was their regular aircraft from the above reports.

Cont. in next post.....

Paul Bellamy

|- | '''Paul Bellamy'''

3/10/2008 7:05:00 PM | I wonder if Mike Harney, the artist of the reproduced jacket artwork could be contacted to see what photo he worked from to paint the new jacket. I get the impression he had something tangible to work from at least.

Thinking about it, it's likely he used this photo as a source:

Interestingly, while looking for Miss Wing Ding-related info I found a a cropped version of the above photo in a selection of NASM attributed photo's of 401BG A-2 jacket artwork [http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=J48Z2-l7ugEC&pg=PA76&lpg=PA76&dq=%22Miss+Wing+Ding%22+401&source=web&ots=6zTQLbWqsa&sig=8gZ2GwuMtmFR3IAeZul8lnxrhWM&hl=en#PPA77,M1|HERE] that show some that aren't in the NA A-2 Jacket Gallery.

Sorry for the clunky triple post, but it was the easiest workaround with the current settings.

All the best,
Paul

Paul Bellamy

|- | '''donaldbyers'''

3/11/2008 10:24:26 AM | Thanks Guys, info was good to read. If we could only tie it to a serial number that would be even greater. It did sound like in the articles that it was a common plane with this crew. So I also think there is enough info there to say they flew this plane as there main aircraft.

Don

Sgt. Donald C.
