| Time to show your thanks to any and all veterans that you know or may be aware of, having served or still serving.<br/> <br/> Naturally, I'm thankful for my father who served from Nov 21, 1944, to Mar 21, 1945, flew 36 combat missions over occupied territory and Germany and then stayed on to help until summer. Crashed once in Belgium, [T0018|as some of you may already be aware]. Dad has many stories to tell, about how he nearly (accidentally) bombed a town in England  <nowiki>--</nowiki>  thank goodness he didn't &#x1f642; . How he watched in horror as he saw some of his fellows went down over Euskirchen (no parachutes came out of those planes. How the tail-gunner would refuse to put on his oxygen mask only to pass out on his way back to the tail. Dad's favorite quote: "I feel like I was shot at and missed and **** on and hit."<br/> <br/> I also want to remember his cousin, Phil, who paid the ultimate price in war &#x1f61e; when his liberator crashed on approach to his home base after returning from a mission. The crash was unrecognizable as an airplane. Phil's father, so broken up by his loss, tried to persuade my father not to go. Buried in England, returned to the states later, his mother demanded the coffin be opened so that she could see her son. &#x1f61e; Thank goodness that wish wasn't granted.<br/> <br/> I also want to remember [http://www.401bg.org/401bgweb/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279|Franz Stiegler and Charles M. Brown]. Franz for his incredible act of chivalry during war, and for Charles for his continued service after that horrifying event. Both men are alive today and best of friends.<br/> <br/> So, your turn. | The men i want to remember are fallen but will never , never be forgotten.<br/> <br/> I would really want to remember 3 soldiers whose graves i adopted.<br/> <br/> Its about Joseph V Del Torto who crashed with his plane ( B-17 Maid to order ) on 16 Feb 1945 in the Netherlands.<br/> <br/> Also i like to remember Marshall D Breininger who was killed in action , 7 April , 1945 by a German sniper.<br/> <br/> And Gustavo R Ontiveroz who died on 6 April , 1945.<br/> <br/> God bless them and all the men who served in this great war.<br/> <br/> thanks to all of them.<br/> <br/> Andy <br/><br/>_________________________________<br/> <br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/swinny/margraten012.jpg' />      My adoption graves [http://www.remember-our-heroes.nl/us_401stBG.htm|http://www.remember-our-heroes.nl/us_401stBG.htm]<br/>
