| While collecting my new(ish) car from Scotland last weekend I had the opportunity to visit some of the places 401st personnel used to arrive and depart from the UK.<br/> <br/> First on the list was my Prestwick Airfield, which was the main point of arrival for aircraft using the North Atlantic ferry route, and apart from a new control tower and terminal building it's pretty much as it was in WWII.<br/> A nice landing approach out over the Isle of Arran and the Clyde, before the smoothest landing I've ever had.<br/> <br/> Due to a Sat-Nav gremlin, instead of driving south to England, I ended up in the middle of Glasgow, so took a short detour to the quaysides of Greenock and Port Glasgow, where all the non-flying personnel arrived by ship.<br/> <br/> Not much to see at Greenock, the original liner quays have been buried under a more recent containerised freight terminal, but at Port Glasgow a single crane and warehouse still remain, amid new blocks of flats and modern warehouse units.<br/> <br/> After that I thought I'd better get back to my journey.  450 miles, and 6 hours driving through pouring rain saw me back home.<br/> <br/> An interesting way to spend a Sunday, especially when the air fare from Stanstead to Prestwick is a mere  <br/><br/>Paul Bellamy<br/> <img class='ForumMaxImgWidth' src='/public/Attachments/ForumNew.MainPage/resource1.png' /><br/>

| Ooh, I was well on the right road South, but due to Ryanair's regs I couldn't carry a roadmap on my person..... <br/> Got from Irvine to Kilkmarnock fine, aiming for the A76 for Carlisle..... but a lack of signs on the bypass only caused me to go with the instructions...... I knew I was heading North, but was then stuck on the A77/M77 nightmare.  &#x1f609; <br/> <br/> Hey-ho.... I knew where I wanted to be, but as I wasn't there I took advantage of the situation.
