To all:

The following web site offers free fingertip access to MACRs and National Archive images. Loads of 401st BG (H) MACRs and photos are available. The site's search engine works very well. After you register, you can download the free images and reports.

Check it out: http://www.footnote.com

It's one of those LIMITED TIME ONLY deals so don't wait long!! Thanks for posting it as I have not been back to it for awhile now but am a member of footnotes.

The free MACRs are a short-term offer, but the US Air Force photo archive images have been free to download since I joined ages ago.

All the best,
PB

Paul,

As best I can tell, I believe access to the MACRs will not be of limited duration since they are NARA holdings.

I only heard about the free MACR download offer by word of mouth a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I'd better get the official Footnote line on the matter.

The best I can find is this:

Footnote.Com And The National Archives Launch Internet’s Largest Interactive World War II Collection
5 Dec 2008>Washington DC and Lindon, UT
......
For a limited time, Footnote.com is providing free access to their National Archives WWII collections that include:

• Pearl Harbor Muster Rolls
• Missing Air Crew Reports
• U.S. Air Force Photos
• Submarine Patrol Reports
• Japanese Air Target Analysis
• Army JAG Case Files
• Navy JAG Case Files
• Naval Press Clippings
• Allied Military Conferences

....

All the best,
PB

Paul,

All is not as dire as might appear at first glance for those who are patient. Please see this link: http://archives.gov/press/press-release ... 07-41.html

2012 is not too far off.

Sad to report, the MACRs at Footnote have reverted to premium rate access once more. 😢

I just wish I'd finished downloading them last month.
