How to Edit a Member Page
Editing a page in ScrewTurn Wiki is easy and requires only a few steps. Here's how to do it:
Prerequisites
First, you must have an account. You cannot edit a page without having registered that account. You can register a new one or log in with your existing one
here. Please note that entry is not granted automatically. We expect to know something about you before we allow anyone in.
Step 1: Navigate to the Page
Use the Search box and enter the serviceman's name or go to the
Serviceman's Page and click on the tab with the first letter of the man's last name. Then search for him by last name under the appropriate squadron.
Step 2: Click the "Edit" Tab
Once on the page, click the Edit tab at the top of the screen.
If you're not logged in, you may need to log in first. Some wikis allow anonymous editing; others may not.
Step 3: Make Your Changes
NOTE: Each service man's page is organized into sections: "Service During the War" and "Life Before the War", "Life After the War". Also note that the "Service During the War" section contains subsections: "Recorded Missions" and "Personal Accounts". The "Recorded Missions" section contains a tag
"{s:MemberMissionList}" -- do not touch this. "Personal Accounts" will contain any stories or anecdotes that the serviceman might have told about his time during the war.
Similarly, "Life Before the War" & "Life After the War" can contain relevant information about that man as is appropriate for their life outside of their service.
You can edit these sections either by:
- Pressing the "Edit" button at the top right side of the page. This will allow you to edit any section at once.
- Pressing the "Edit" button inside each section heading. This will allow only edits of that sections.
Uploading a Portrait
Each servicemen page can have an associated portrait. If a portrait is assigned, you will see it, otherwise, you'll see a sillohuette in pastel blues indicating no portrait is available.
You can assign a portrait by following these steps:
- Name the photo of him "WikiPortrait.jpg" if it's a .jpg file, otherwise "WikiPortrait.png" if it's a .png file or "WikiPortrait.bmp", etc...
- Upload the file, first by using the "Choose File" button and locating the the file to be uploaded.
- Second, press the "Upload" button to actually send the file to the page.
- Once uploaded and the page saved & refreshed, the portrait should appear automatically -- assuming it was named correctly.
For a full list of syntax, see our
Help.WikiMarkup-Reference page.
Step 4: Preview Your Changes (Optional)
Click the Preview button to see how your changes will look before saving.
Step 5: Save the Page
Enter a summary of what you changed (optional, but helpful).
Click Save to publish your changes.
Notes
If you make a mistake, don’t worry — you can always revert to an earlier version of the page using the History tab.
Some pages may be protected from editing and require special permissions.
