Mainly concerning my father: S/Sgt Everett M Bushendorf. If there are options, how would I search with names only. Looking for awards and burial sites.

5/26/2003 4:17:11 PM | I appreciate your information, but it was my understanding from other web sites, that the only survivor was Enstad. I remember my father being buried in the U.S. I was wondering where he was buried before he was brought back here.

6/25/2003 6:47:08 PM | From our own family research similar to yours, the two official personnel records sources (for deceased military) so far include:
a. As a direct family descendant, and through the "Freedom of Information Act" you may obtain copies of the Army's "Deceased Personnel File (IDFF)" regarding your father, and should address your request to: The Department of the Army, U.S. Total Army Personnel Command; Alexandria, Virginia, 22332-0405. I believe they have a form you must sign and return before they process the request, but your request "kicks-off" the process. These records include information about (initial) overseas burials and process of finding and bringing home the deceased for burial here in the USA.
b. Also, The National personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Boulevard, St. Louis, Mo. 63132-5100 (which is a part of the National Archives and Records Administration) has in its holdings, personnel records of deceased WWII military personnel. They require a form be filled out, (and will answer a letter of inquiry with one for you to complete, or you can download the form from their website (again, part of the National Archives website). Odds are, though, that not much is available - the Records Center had a fire (years ago) and are still trying to salvage records.
With both, the nore detailed identification information you can provide, the better the possibilities for successful results are.
As a side-note, having just visited my Uncle's Crew's gravesite (the Crew, KIA together, were buried together with a single headstone listing all). I mention this only to let you know the names are in alphabetical order, not under the Pilot's name. (The Cemetery's common burial listings is also are by this alphabetical, not by Pilot, order).
