Memorial Day 2011

I personally was honored many years ago when Jesus saved my life.
He rode beside me in my plane and protected me from strife.
I pass all the honors on to those who didn’t make it back.
I saw their planes explode right beside me when they were hit by flak!

All those in service who died in battle were welcomed by the Lord.
He didn’t decorate them with medals but with a much deserved award.
A lovely Heavenly Home with Him was ready when they arrived,
Most of them were now much better off than if they had survived!

Too often I fear we overlook the ones they have left behind.
We need a separate Memorial Day for them to give them peace of mind.
They are the ones who suffered most they’re always filled with grief.
Although it’s true, this Memorial Day does bring a measure of relief!

I don’t belittle in any way medals and honors bestowed upon the brave.
They are certainly measures of our Nations thanks which they can save,
But too many awards I’m afraid are just sitting on the shelf,
And it takes a special day to drag them out and decorate oneself!

The Good Lord knows that I appreciate the thanks that I receive,
And I don’t have to walk around with my feelings on my sleeve,
But I do wear on my lapel a replica of my B-17.
“Bottle Baby” was her name and she was a beautiful queen!

We all fight battles every day and there is one we dare not lose.
The devil is at war with God, his offers we must refuse.
Jesus is Commander of our troops and offers us a great reward.
He’ll reunite us with our fallen heroes, who are already with the Lord!
