1. (another) Great 'find'! Is it possible another 401st A/C 'unknown', 231081 [IN-c] 'Son of A Blitz', is there also? I looked, but didn't even find 'Sniklefritz'...operator error?
2. Sorry to learn of W. Reese's passing. He was always helpful to us, most recently in trying to find what Unit my Uncle's 'buddy', Radioman Sgt. H.L. Bussey, ser.36457879, was in - near Deenethorpe - (even though unsuccessful).
Thoughts?

Yes this is a better picture of the nose art on the aircraft. When I was just scanning some of the pictures I have I believe there is one on the disks that I have but not as nice as this one.

With the exception of seven missions, their usual aircraft was IN-B 44-6132, the most likely candidate to be Snicklefritz.

I have updated the records to reflect the info from the loading lists. I did change the 11 Sep 1944 serial from 37395 to 97395 which is the correct tail nr. for Chute the Works.

I don't know why I wrote 37395, I did it once while I was compiling my notes and then corrected it , but forgot to correct it again when I transferred the typed list. :oops:

Joe knows the plane was used by others we have been in contact since 1999. On 25 Aug 1944 Joe and crew went out to the hardstand to find out their aircraft wasn't there. It had been shot down the previous day, 24 Aug 1944, with the crew of Lt. M.S. Fish in it. However they were told that Lt. Maxwell Cain was the pilot and until I had researched it and told him of the error that was made he now knew the truth after so many years believing it was Cain flying his plane that day. My uncle was the Togglier on that mission and was KIA.

Don, I looked at dad's journal again yesterday. He wrote:"August 24,1944 Subject: Jill's Jalopy went down today. Hit by M.E. 109 fighters. A new crew, Lt. Fish, and there (sp) first mission. The target was Leipzig." So dad knew who was flying Jill's Jalopy, when it happened. Joe has told me, again yesterday, that the "old guys" up front (Tom, Jack and Dad) didn't talk to the younger guys in the back much. Dad was 30 years old and Joe was 18 (I think). It took contact with you to answer many questions Joe had for all those years. Joe has said Dad's journal answered many questions too. Keep up the good work. The Mission for 24 Aug 1944 was Weimar a V2 Plant & Parts manufature. Also I don't remember (sorry) do I have a copy of that journal?

S/Sgt Virgil Goudy was a camera repair technician with the Photo Lab on the 457th BG's base at nearby RAF Glatton, where the initial photo was taken.
