Notes: Group briefing took place at 0115 hours, and all 38 operational aircraft had taken off by 0506. Five aircraft, including spares, had returned by 0956 or been diverted to other airfields. The remaining operational aircraft had all returned from the mission by 1216 hours.

Summary: The 401st provided the High Boxes of the 94th "A" and "B" Combat Wings, Major White flying the lead of the "A" Box and Major Hinkle the lead of the "B" Box. The target was bombed visually, and strike photos showed excellent results for both boxes.
No enemy fighters were encountered, but flak over the target was described as intense and very accurate. While the 401st did not lose any aircraft, the 8th Air Force as a whole lost 50 bombers and 8 fighters, while 942 bombers returned with battle damage.
