Summary: The Group provided the Lead and High Boxes of the 94th Combat Wing. The briefed target was Berlin, but cloud cover from 13,000 to 23,000 feet resulted in a recall of the entire mission. While all other groups returned without dropping their bombs, the 401st, led by Major Seawell, was able to find a target of opportunity, Luftwaffe airdromes at Bergen/Alkmar, through the clouds. Strike photos indicated direct hits on hangers at the airdromes. No enemy aircraft were encountered, and flak was described as meager and inaccurate.
