Summary: The 401st flew the High Box in the 94th Combat Wing formation. The Heinkel aircraft assembly plant at Oranienburg was the original target. However, because of 10/10th cloud cover over the primary target, the Group bombed its secondary target, the Friedrichstrasse Railway Station in the heart of Berlin, by PFF (radar). The Group also showered the city with leaflets. No Luftwaffe opposition was encountered, and flak, although intense, was inaccurate as far as the 401st was concerned. Twelve of the 657 aircraft dispatched by the 8th Air Force failed to return.
