Cap't Scribner Dailey & :Fancy Nancy"

Hi: I am looking for any information on B-17 Nicknamed "Fancy Nancy" and it's pilot and crew, Capt. Scribner Dailey. He was my grandfather and never spoke of the war. Thanks for your assistance.

There is a picture of Fancy Nancy IV B-17 42-31662 from the 401st . Look at Classic Vintage Nose Art book by Gary M.Valant. nose art is on page 34.A-2 jacket on page 74. This book has almost every 401st nose and jacket art shown, plus what happened to
the aircraft.Fancy Nancy was salvaged on April 25, 1945.

Thanks for your prompt reply and info. I found the nose art photo on the 401st website. I am trying to find out any info on the pilot, Capt. Scribner Dailey. I am researching this for my grandmother who is his widow. Any place you can send me for this? I served with the USAF during the Korean War. My brother served with the 410th Bomb Squadron 94th Bomb Group in England. Thanks again for you help and info. Sincerely, Ken Baril

Ken- about all i can suggest is to hope someone in the 401st who knew him can help.Look up members of his crew, and type their name in Google. I found my waist gunner , John Pear, after over a 50 year span of no contact by going on an online search and we have talked and exchanged pictures and laughed about the time he "was under the alcofluence of inkahhol"and shot a clip of .45 caliber holes in our hut roof "to improve the ventilation"! Same lovable and wacky John. I can scan the A2 Jacket pix of Fancy Nancy IV if your grandmother wants one.

My father in law, John Pear is wacky as ever! He has not shot any holes in the roof latley! Soon to be 90 years old, (or young), he is on the go all the time. I will tell him your said hello.

Thanks for the message. I am doing research work for a Scib Daily of the Atlanta area on Capt. Scribner C. Dailey. I don't know the exact relationship but also a young woman by the name of Beth also is interested in the info. I am attempting to put together a booklet on Cap't. Dailey, his plane, his missions and other info. Are you related to him?
