Old friend

Hi,
I don't know if you can help me, but my Grandad is trying to get in touch with a friend who served in the 401st.
His name was Alex Johnson? He played the piano, but he's not sure if he was in a band? Don't know if the 401st had a band? Any information would be gratefull recieved.

He is not listed in the 2005 401st BG Directory.

Hmm,
Does anyone have any ideas how I might find something about him? I understand the 401st are a huge unit? Do personnel records from WW2 exist at all, so we might get details of where he was from? (I'm writing from England, and Grandad can't remember which state he was from)
