I am looking for anyting that can help me to learn more about the man who's grave I adopted at the American War Cemetry in Margraten (Holland).
All I know is that he was in the 614 Bomb Sq 401 Bomb Gp/H.
He was a 2nd LT.
His name is Robinson Frederick B. and lived in Texas USA.
He was killed on December 11th 1943.
If you know in which action he was killed and where it happend helps me to learn about the man who helped to free our country from the Germans.
Please let me know, even if you know if he still has family to contact.

Lt Robinson was co-pilot on Kaufman's crew that was hit by flak over Emden.  The crew was flying B-17 serial number 42-31098 with Squadron designator IW-B nicknamed "Penny's Thunderhead".  The crew was given the order to "Abandon ship" and most of the jumped, but Lt Kaufman and the Bombardier, Lt Fitzgerald stayed with the plane.  Lt Fitzgerald had trouble with his chute.  As he was getting ready to leave to plane, the engine stopped burning and windmilling, so they stayed with the plane and ended up landing at RAF Lindholme.  Those that parachuted ended up in the cold North Sea.  Two were picked up and held as POWs, three were MIAs and Lt Robinson and two others were  confirmed as killed - probably from exposure or drowning in the sea.  There is a negative in the United States National Archives of the plane.  Its negative number is NASA 6590AC.

Actually they were just off the Dutch coast.  Six of the crew opened their chutes immediately and were blown out to sea.  The two others delayed their chute openings and "landed safely" which means they were close enough to land to get picked up.

thank you Scott for answering so fast. This message was only on the net for 15 minutes and already I know a lot more about Mr. Robinson.

That negative number in the Archives (Search "National Archives" on how to order) for a picture of the B-17 is 65490AC not 6590AC.  My computer is having problems typing a "4".  Guess we just timed it right.

My father (Richard H. Kaufman) was pilot on this mission.

I was thrilled to see he is noted on the forum and will point this out to him next time I see him!

Dear Mr. McElvain,
It is not a reply, it is not even a question, it is asking for your help.
First let me introduce myself.
I live in the Netherlands close to Margraten, less than half an hour by car.
I also adopted three men ( I don't like to call it "grave adoption")paratroopers of 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment 17th Airborne Division.
In 2000 people from Texas (Victoria region)visited the Margraten Cemetery. Because they knew that I was the adopter of a Quero citizen, my wife and I were invited to join them and so we did.
As we went to the bus to leave a man asked the leader of the group to wait, because his wife was a bit sad because she had discovered her brothers name at the Wall of Missing. I told the leader, a lady, that it might give some help if she could tell this lady, at the right moment, that I promised to lay flowers not only at the adopted graves but also at the Wall of Missing as close to her brothers name as possible.
Later I was informed that it was indeed helpful.
Because I know who the other three men were before the war and I also know where and how they died, I would be very happy if you can give me some information about:
Paul W. Trump
T SGT 614 Bomb SQ
401 Bomb GP (H)
Virginia
Today I visited the Cemetery because at 10.00 there was a Holy Mass and at 15.00 a performance of Mozart's Requiem.
Of course I visited the three graves as well as the Wall of Missing and laid some flowers and as I saw Paul Trump's name I decided to try to get more information.
Thank you in advance.
