The Group will be having a mini-reunion from 7-13 July with three days around Deenethorpe. There are a few locals in your area who are very helpful members of the association and are probably mentioned in other parts of this website.

2. As the previous reply indicates, the 401BG Historical Society is right there 'in your backyard' and would probably be glad to hear from you.

3. My Wife and I visited Deenethorpe in 1999, and it was these 401BG Historical Society members that made our trip so enjoyable and productive.

4. There are a lot of books available - some listed in the 'References' part of this Website, and one other called 'Aviation in Northamptonshire' (out of print now) that Libraries local to you may have a copy of that includes Deenethorpe; so

5. Keep us posted on how you make out on contacts and what you'd like to know more about.

hi win, i looked at the websites and they're great. i'm also looking for pics as they were back in the war. some1 who visited sum yrs ago had lost their ear in battle do you know who that was? when i was younger i went down into the nuclear bunker, was it used for anything else? do you know any1 from the deenethorpe village? thanks lee

1. Photos: I think everyone, including me, is looking for 'then' photos, and the 401BG Historical Society there may be a good place to start. There may also be some local sources there to 'mine' also, besides the formal archives like the U.S. National Archives. The 401BG Unit History has 'then' photos, but it's hard to find a copy - here or there.
2. Wounded Vet: I don't know (or know of) the 401BG Vet. you're referring to, but perhaps someone else reading the postings does.
3. Deenethorpe Base: I believe the RAF built Deenethorpe, and after the 401BG left after VE, the RAF used it - and built the nuclear bunker. I'm no historian, but that book 'Aviation in Northamptonshire' may elaborate on that and give dates.

hi win, where do you live? and how old are you? sorry just want 2 know more bout the people i'm talking 2. my auntie is really into the history of ww2 and has got alot of books on deenethorpe. she also has the book that every1 from the 401st got at the end of the war. thanks lee

You might try thr Mighty 8th AF museum in Savannah. I gave them my photo album with pictures I took while at Deenthorpe.

Lee, I believe that there is a DVD/CD available on the website called "The Way it Was". It was put together during the reunion last summer and has a lot of history given by the men of the 401st. You might find this interesting.
